Picture Almost-Perfect

Lately I've been inspired to do some photo editing. I've always enjoyed taking photos, and one reason I was really looking forward to getting an iPhone was the picture editing capabilities. I decided to put together a small collection of edited pics for you. These were all taken by me and edited on my phone, on the apps Superimpose and Rhonna Designs (both 99 cents on the App Store).

You might be seeing more of these as of now, so tell me what you think!

I actually blended two photos for this one, to make the trees along the side
of the road, and the sun. I'm kinda proud that it ended up looking like
one picture.

The half pipe at the terrain park

Welcome to a little recap of my February break.

Where I live right now, we are in the middle of February vacation. Usually I would be hanging around at home, groaning because all my friends are off on adventures and I'm stuck in my house with two nagging parents, but fortunately my friend Olivia saved me from that torture this year, by inviting me to go skiing with her at Okemo!

Sunday morning we packed up the car and drove to the ski resort. We rented a condo right beside the mountain, so we could ski in, ski out. We didn't even see the condo until the afternoon, however--the minute we got to the mountain we buckled up our ski boots and headed out to the slopes. It was a warm day (the only one we'd have the whole week), and we spent our time exploring the mountain and all the great trails.

Unfortunately, on one of the first runs, I failed to see a patch of ice and took a nasty fall. I bruised my hip pretty bad, but I was able to continue skiing. Except here's the catch: that's the hip I naturally fall on every time, so I rebruised it multiple times throughout the course of the vacation.

In the evening, Olivia and I headed over to the pool, where we swam for a while before warming up I'm the hot tub. We came back, had dinner, and went to bed.

The next five days played out the same way. Get up early, hit the slopes, come back to the condo for lunch, go out again, return for the evening, go to the pool, eat, fall in to bed exhausted. It was fun and fast, and as I sit in my bunk bed here typing in the wee hours of the morning, I'm sad to say we will be leaving this afternoon. But not before we take a ride on the Timber Ripper, the awesome alpine slide!

Musty Old Book

i inhale you.
stagnant air and dust
has never smelled so sweet.
i open your cover--
rigid under my fingertips--
and press my nose
to your jaundiced pages.
your paper, thick,
bends by my will
packed with letters
deliberately placed
to create a river that flows
through the canyons of my mind.
where did you sit,
so many years ago,
when your words were yet to be read?
who kept you by their bedside?
who opened you at nightfall
and immersed themself
in your woven tales?
how many palms
graced your worn cover?
how did your creators labor?
i am not the only one
who has known your story.
but it goes deeper
than the words on your surface
and in that regard you are silent.
as long as your journey
remains unspoken
you will remain on the shelf.
another musty old book
another secret to remain

In Case You're Feeling Down....

Maybe you read my last post, or maybe you didn't, but just to recap, Valentine's Day is about loving yourself and the people who are in your life, instead of the people you wish were in your life. Still, I know for many it can be hard to feel cheerful on February 14th. So I compiled some little videos and pictures to cheer you up just a tad...

Pig in a blanket!
"Oh, poo, this is not funny"
Cheer up, Cheerio!

Change Your Tune This Valentine's Day

The majority of the people I know hate Valentine's Day, and I'm willing to bet that a good portion of my Blogger pals out there do as well. If you're single, you roll your eyes at signs in store windows advertising merchandise for That Special Someone, and shake your head at public displays of affection. You glare at the bouquets in the grocery store, secretly wishing someone would FINALLY purchase one for you. You buy a mega-size box of heart-shaped chocolates and eat them while snuggled on your couch, under a heap of blankets, watching a full season of your favorite show on Netflix (c'mon, does that really sound so bad?). Valentine's Day is a sore spot for you, and it can't hurry by quick enough.

Stop right there. This is where I interject, and tell you to get it together! You don't need a boyfriend/girlfriend to make your Valentine's Day one to remember! Who cares if you don't have a romantic dinner date with your one true love? So what if you don't get a clump of thorny flowers that are going to die eventually anyway? You don't need a significant other to validate yourself.

I like to try to make Valentine's Day about helping other people, doing nice things for my friends, and occasionally leaving paper hearts in all the neighbors' mailboxes. If you haven't already, make your friends and family members Valentines. Put some effort into them--they might not be expecting them, and it's always nice to get a friendly card. Doing things for other people can have the funny effect of making you just a little happier.

Valentine's Day is this Saturday. Don't spend it moping, mooning over that one person's Facebook profile, or drowning yourself in tears. Take advantage of this day of love--because it's about more than just one kind of love. Take a friend downtown for a hot chocolate. Have brunch. Watch a movie with a sibling. Do something you are passionate about. Remember, your happiness is your choice.

Skiing and Molasses Valentine

My family downhill skis. Today we went skiing, and I went off on my own and skied around. I'm a bullet-skier. I don't dawdle on the slopes or take slow, rambling turns. I shoot down as fast as I can, and usually it only takes me a couple of minutes to get to the bottom. I like the thrill. Slow skiing, at least to me, is just boring.

Besides that, I also took some adorable Valentine's Day themed pictures of Molasses. For the record, I LOVE VALENTINE'S DAY. I love making people happy and making cards and all that kind of stuff. By the way, if you want to follow Molasses (and her campaign for President!) on Instagram, her account is @molasses_for_president.

Okay, guys, I know I'm totally cheesy, but I really, really love my guinea pig, Molasses, so…she's official running for president. I even made her a campaign video and a website. (She forced me to, I swear!) So I hereby present, Molasses, America's Favorite Guinea Pig!
